Hello!
Thank you for stopping by my website.
My name is Joanne and I am the proud owner of The Backyard Garden Enthusiast, a small but growing Australian native flower and grass seed business based in the beautiful south-east Riverina area of NSW.
I am:
Never having quite enough garden space, I decided to buy the house block next door when it came up for sale. The bank manager said “you will never make any money from a bare block”. Always one to rise to a challenge, I decided to plant some Billy Buttons (Pycnosaurus globosus), which flourished and bloomed beautifully. I then planted other flowers and started saving and sharing seeds - all of a sudden I had a micro seed farm! I now grow, harvest and package native flower and grass seed, along with some traditional garden classics.
Benefits of growing Australian native plants :
By growing Australian native flowers and grasses, you are not only providing food and shelter for our wildlife, but you are helping to create a corridor for insects, birds and animals to traverse through our urban spaces.
Seeds as Gifts: Seeds are tiny capsules of joy and hope that make fabulous gifts. Giving seeds as a gift, is a way of bestowing the gift of a garden upon those we love, wrapped up in the proven health and well-being benefits associated with being outside in nature.
Join me on my journey. I’d love to hear about you and your garden, whether it be a big or small patch, a balcony or indoor garden.
Enjoy and lots of love,
Joanne (The Enthusiast)
My garden is a small but vibrant space that is always changing. I first started growing plants that suited the soil and position. That's where the Billy Buttons came into their own. I then grew some of my favourite things: Everlasting Daisies and Sweet Peas. I now grow 18 different flowers and grasses for seed, and continue to further my passion for Australian native plants. I'm always learning and growing.

We're often roped in to help Mum in the garden. When we were little tykes she 'borrowed' the sand from our sand pit and that was the last we saw of it! Now that we've grown up a bit, she says that our job description includes, product testing, proof reading and occasional heavy lifting. She is bonkers about plants, but she is our Mum and we love her.
